Description: The film is about a woman who was robbed by fellow travelers, arrested and sent to the county jail because of the lack of a passport, where she was raped by one of the guards…
The plot might sound familiar – smart city girl come unstuck in Hicksville and gets raped for her troubles – but this movie is something else. For one thing its got Tommy Lee Jones and the lovely Yvette Mimieux as the leads. She gets jailed on a trumped-up charge, and is soon given a taste of what’s to come by the guard who dangles a sausage in front of her. The subsequent rape is surprisingly graphic – nipples showing, panties ripped off, all watched by fellow prisoner Tommy Lee. They manage to escape together, whereupon she’s given a rough taste of life on the lam. Not content with genre clichés, the narrative takes time to go observe the politics of America in the 70s, notably in the stunning final showdown. This is a well crafted movie with strong performances and, while never forgetting its exploitation roots, offers a bit more to savour.
